Specialty Pages and Embedded Guides

PathologyLabTraining covers 12 NHS biomedical-science specialties, each with its own interview page and a set of embedded mini-guides that go deeper on individual techniques and conditions.

The 12 specialties

You can reach each specialty's interview page from Specialties in the navigation bar, from the Specialties grid on your home page once signed in, or by going directly to:

Each page collects the guides, simulators and case studies for that specialty, and links into the Interview Explorer, where the specialty's question bank lives, organised by NHS Band 2 to Band 8 with model answers. The explorer needs a free account; free accounts see a sample of questions and Premium unlocks the rest.

Embedded mini-guides

Within each specialty page you will see embedded Guide cards that go deeper into a specific technique, condition or workflow. Some specialties have one or two, Microbiology has the most. Examples include:

Guides combine a written walk-through with practice questions and (where applicable) link out to the matching Virtual Lab simulation.

Choosing what to study

The fastest way to map preparation to your interview is:

1. Open the specialty interview page that matches the role advertised and read its guides.
2. Follow the link into the Interview Explorer and pick the band tab for your target role.
3. Work through the questions, then take a Practice Test in the same specialty and band.
4. If your specialty has a Virtual Lab (most do), spend at least one session in the simulator to consolidate the workflow.

Cross-specialty topics

Some topics appear in more than one specialty (for example quality control, sample integrity and critical-value escalation). Use the search box in the Interview Explorer to find them across specialties.
