Building Your IBMS and HCPC Portfolio

The IBMS Registration and Specialist portfolios are structured evidence records that show you have met each required competency. Our portfolio tracker helps you collect, organise, and export this evidence.

Opening the tracker

Open Portfolio from the main menu. Each major competency area (pre-analytical, analytical, post-analytical, health and safety, quality, professional practice) is shown as its own card with a progress indicator.

Attaching evidence

For each competency you can attach:

• Written reflections using the built-in editor
• Completion records from Virtual Lab simulations
• Practice Test scores as knowledge checks
• Documents you upload (PDF, DOCX, images)
• Witness statements or supervisor sign-offs entered by your training officer

Completing a Virtual Lab simulation automatically suggests the competencies it maps to — you can accept or adjust the mapping before attaching.

Exporting for assessment

When you are ready for verification, export a single PDF or a zipped package of your evidence. The export follows the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio structure so your verifier can navigate it without surprises.

HCPC alignment

The tracker is aligned with current HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Biomedical Scientists, so evidence you collect for IBMS Registration contributes toward HCPC CPD too.

Tips

• Add evidence as you go — do not wait until the end
• Keep reflections short but specific. "What did I do, what did I learn, what will I do differently" is enough
• Scan and upload paper sign-offs promptly; originals get lost
