Account, Pricing & Access

Notifications and email preferences

We split everything we send you into three categories. Two are under your control; one is essential service mail you cannot turn off.

The three categories

Category Examples Can you opt out?
Essential service Password resets, billing receipts, renewal reminders, failed-payment alerts, GDPR export-ready and account-deletion confirmations, security alerts No — required for the service
Newsletter (marketing & product) Monthly newsletter, new-feature announcements, educational content, IBMS Congress and trade-event invites, surveys Yes — Newsletter Preferences
Browser push In-browser pop-up reminders, only if you ever clicked "Allow" when prompted Yes — your browser settings

There is no separate "Notifications" tab in Account Settings. The newsletter is managed on a dedicated page; push notifications are managed by your browser; essential mail is uncontrollable by design.

Newsletter Preferences — the only opt-out screen we control

Go to /newsletter-preferences (also linked from the footer of every newsletter email).

You can:

  1. Turn the newsletter off entirely — tick or untick "Subscribe to newsletter updates".
  2. Choose which categories you receive — once subscribed, pick any combination of:
    • General Updates — general app updates and news
    • Feature Updates — new features and improvements
    • Feature Announcements — major feature releases
    • Educational Content — learning resources and study tips

Click Save Preferences and the change is immediate.

If you are fully unsubscribed, leave the box unticked and we will not send the newsletter, regardless of which categories are highlighted.

Per-email unsubscribe link

Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link in its footer. Clicking it has the same effect as ticking "Unsubscribe" on the Newsletter Preferences page.

Billing and security alerts (cannot be turned off)

You will always receive:

These are operationally necessary. If you want to stop these you must cancel your subscription or delete your account — see Billing and Data and GDPR.

Browser push notifications

We do not currently push anything proactively from the app; if you ever see a "Allow notifications from pathologylabtraining.co.uk?" prompt and clicked Allow, you can revoke that permission at any time:

Email deliverability — when you expect a mail and it does not arrive

If you stop receiving expected emails (e.g. password reset, GDPR export link, subscription receipt):

  1. Check your spam / junk folder — NHS mail servers (@nhs.net) sometimes filter our emails.
  2. Add [email protected] and [email protected] to your safe-senders list.
  3. If using an NHS account, ask your IT to whitelist the domain.
  4. If still missing, email us from any other address and we can resend or investigate.

Organisation communications

If you are part of a Trust or university cohort, your organisation admin can email cohort-wide announcements through their own admin tools. These are sent from your organisation's email channel, not from us, and follow your organisation's own opt-out process.

We never send a cohort communication on your admin's behalf to bypass your newsletter preference.

Frequency expectations

In practice we send:

If we ever start sending proactive in-app or push notifications, you will see a setting added to control them and we will update this article. Until then, what you see here is the complete picture.

Privacy

Newsletter preferences are stored privately under row-level access, so only you (and platform support) can read or change them. Unsubscribed timestamps are preserved so we honour previous unsubscribes if you ever re-sign up.
