1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit our website. They help us provide you with a better user experience by remembering your preferences and analyzing how you use our service.

We also use similar technologies like local storage, session storage, and web beacons to enhance your experience.

2. Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly and cannot be switched off.

Authentication Cookies:

  • sb-access-token: Manages your login session
  • sb-refresh-token: Maintains your session when you return
  • Purpose: Keep you logged in and secure your account
  • Duration: Session or until you log out

Security Cookies:

  • CSRF tokens: Protect against cross-site request forgery
  • Purpose: Ensure your actions are legitimate
  • Duration: Session

3. Functional Cookies

These cookies enhance your experience by remembering your preferences.

Preference Cookies:

  • theme-preference: Remembers your light/dark mode setting
  • specialty-filter: Saves your preferred specialty filters
  • cookie-consent: Remembers your cookie consent choices (stored for up to 12 months, then we ask again)
  • Purpose: Customize your experience
  • Duration: 1 year

Progress Tracking:

  • study-progress: Tracks your learning progress
  • test-settings: Remembers your practice test preferences
  • Purpose: Provide personalized learning experience
  • Duration: 1 year

4. Analytics Cookies

These cookies help us understand how you use our service so we can improve it.

Usage Analytics:

  • page-views: Tracks which pages you visit
  • feature-usage: Monitors which features are popular
  • session-duration: Measures how long you use the service
  • error-tracking: Helps us identify and fix issues
  • Purpose: Improve service quality and user experience
  • Duration: 2 years

Performance Monitoring:

  • load-times: Measures page loading speed
  • api-performance: Tracks API response times
  • Purpose: Optimize service performance
  • Duration: 30 days

5. Marketing Cookies

These are third-party advertising pixels that measure whether our adverts brought you here. None of them loads until you switch marketing cookies on; if you reject them, no request is ever made to these providers.

Google Ads (Google LLC):

  • _gcl_au, _gcl_aw: Conversion measurement for Google Ads
  • Purpose: Attribute sign-ups and purchases to our Google adverts
  • Duration: 90 days

Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd):

  • _fbp, _fbc: Identify your browser to Meta for advert measurement
  • Purpose: Measure and target our Facebook and Instagram adverts
  • Duration: 90 days

TikTok Pixel (TikTok Technology Ltd):

  • _ttp, _tt_enable_cookie: Identify your browser to TikTok for advert measurement
  • Purpose: Measure and target our TikTok adverts
  • Duration: 13 months

Withdrawing marketing consent later removes the cookies these pixels set on our domain, reloads the page so the pixel scripts are gone, and stops any further requests to the providers. A cookie a provider set on its own domain (for example TikTok's _ttp on tiktok.com) can only be cleared in your browser settings, and the providers keep the data they already received under their own policies.

6. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have several options to control cookies:

Our Consent Manager:

You can change your choices at any time. The button below reopens the consent settings; the Cookie settings link in the page footer does the same. Your latest choice replaces the earlier one and is recorded with its date.

Browser Settings:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Privacy, Search, and Services → Cookies

Opt-Out Links:

Note: Disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of our service, including your ability to log in and access premium features.

7. Third-Party Cookies

We work with trusted third-party services that may set their own cookies:

  • Stripe: Payment processing (essential for subscriptions)
  • Supabase: Authentication and data hosting
  • Cloudflare: Content delivery and security (essential)
  • Resend: Email delivery services
  • ReachSurge: Cookieless page statistics; sets no cookie and reads no device storage
